I talk about last nights win against Huddersfield in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

Grimsby went into lasts nights Johnstone’s Paint Trophy North Section Round 1, has the underdogs with Huddersfield high flying in League One and Grimsby languishing near the bottom of League Two, who thought that the result would of ended the way it did?

I remember back in 1998, when Town made their first trip to the old Wembley Stadium to come away with a 2-1 win over Bournemouth in the League Trophy. With players such has McDermott, Gallimore, Black, Donovan, Clare, Groves and Livingston.

Alan Buckley was manager that day and has said he will be taking this competition seriously this season, and after last nights result, who would disagree?

Has we fell 1-0 down in stoppage time of the first half, I thought it was going to be another one of them games, have more possession, can`t convert shots into goals, but then it came, also in stoppage time the equaliser, what joy had least we had pulled it level.

The second half started has we ended with another goal for the Mighty Mariners, what joy, what excitement, Town had taken the lead, it was now 2-1. Town leading Huddersfield, was this to be our night.

The joy and excitement on my face was more than words could describe, after the missed chances to win against Macclesfield and the failure to get anything out the Shrewsbury game, Town were beating a good side, Huddersfield who wasn`t playing at their best, to my surprise.

But wait, it wasn`t to end there, Town had just gone 3-1 up, a few minutes later. What was happening, was I dreaming Town 3 Huddersfield 1, surely not. But yes we where leading and on our way to the second round.

With only 22 minutes remaining Town scored another goal to make it 4-1, the team that has been struggling to find the back of the net had now scored 4, there goes my prediction of 1-1.

The League Trophy may not be everybody`s idea of a night out, has low attendances around the country last night showed, but to me a win has good has this one is worth celebrating.

The JPT is a good trophy to try and win, but not forgetting that we do need league wins more. Last time we won it we got promotion the same year and returned to what is now the Championship, can we repeat the 97/98 season and win the JPT and get promoted, let`s hope so.

Now we have shown we can score, we now have to start scoring in the league and start pushing up for promotion. Next game being against Accrington Stanley on Saturday.

Accrington Stanley had gone 2-0 up in their game against Oldham before Oldham had pulled 3 goals back to win 3-2.

Now, when Saturday comes, we`ll see if Town can take this performance to Accrington and come away with a much needed 3 points, can Town beat Accrington, read my match report and predictions later this week.
