Grimsby played their last home game of the season today against already promoted side Peterborough United who brought around 1,200 supporters with them.

The Mariners won a free kick in the first 3 minutes after a foul by Craig Morgan on Nathan Jarman. Ciaran Toner took the free kick and sent the ball in where Nick Fenton got his head on the ball but it was caught by Peterborough`s keeper Joe Lewis.

Peterborough then had a corner taken by Dean Keates and he sent the ball to the near post where Aaron Mclean tried a shot but Tom Newey cleared.

George Boyd then got a shot in for the Posh but it was blocked by Fenton before the ball ended up back with Boyd and he tried another shot but this time he sent the ball wide.

Peterborough kept up the pressure and Criag Mackail-Smith got a shot in on 10 minutes but sent the ball over the bar.

Keates then had a shot blocked by Rob Atkinson before the Mariners got a break and Peter Bore sent in a cross but Lewis caught hold of the ball.

The Mariners then had a free kick after a foul by Micah Hyde on Danny Boshell. The kick was taken by Jamie Clarke and he found Toner who tried a shot but could only volley the ball wide of the goal.

Peterborough looked like a worthy promoted side and continued to push the Mariners defence back. Adam Newton sent a couple of crosses in with Ryan Bennett and then Fenton clearing the ball.

Peterborough then scored the opener on 33 minutes when the leagues top scorer Aaron Mclean, got on the end of a cross from Tom Williams to put the ball low and into the net. GRIMSBY 0 PETERBOROUGH 1.

The Posh then had a corner that was taken by Keates. He passed to Williams who went to send a cross in but the ball was cleared for another corner by Paul Bolland. Williams took the corner but this time it was cleared by Atkinson, only for another corner, but Williams corner was cleared by Paul Bolland.

Town did not fully clear the ball and Williams sent a cross in but Town`s keeper Phillip Barnes caught hold of the ball.

Keates then got a shot in and Barnes managed to tip the ball over the bar. Town then made a change 5 minutes from half-time and Danny North came on to replace Danny Boshell.

Keates sent a corner in on 41 minutes and Craig Morgan got a shot in but his volley was cleared by Jarman.

The final piece of action in the first half came 2 minutes in stoppage time when Chris Whelpdale sent the ball over the bar before the half time whistle went

Peterborough won a corner in the first couple of minutes after the restart. Whelpdale sent the corner in but the ball was caught by Barnes.

Mackail-Smith then sent a cross in and found Aaron Mclean and he put the ball into the back of the net and extended Peterborough`s lead. GRIMSBY 0 PETERBOROUGH 2.

Keates then hit the bar from a free kick after 52 minutes before the Mariners made a double change with Peter Bore being replaced by Nick Hegarty and Ciaran Toner was replaced by Martin Butler

The Mariners won a free kick after Morgan was judged to have handled the ball. Newey took the kick and found Atkinson but he headed the ball in to the hands of Lewis.

Martin Butler then pulled a goal back for Town after he got in the area and put the ball low and in to the back of the net. GRIMSBY 1 PETERBOROUGH 2.

Peterborough then made a change on 64 minutes when Chris Whelpdale was replaced by Alfie Potter.

Paul Blland then got a cross in for Town and Hegarty got a shot in but Lewis saved and held on to the ball.

Peterborough then scored another goal after 73 minutes when Craig Mackail-Smith got in the area and put the ball past Barnes. GRIMSBY 1 PETERBOROUGH 3.

Peterborough then made their second change on 78 minutes when Aaron Mclean came of to around of applause by the Posh supporters and even Town fans clapped. He was replaced by Scott Rendell.

Peterborough then got a fourth on 82 minutes when Tom Williams sent in a cross and found Rendell who had just come on and he put the ball in to the net. GRIMSBY 1 PETERBOROUGH 3.

Peterborough made their final change on 83 minutes when Dean Keates was replaced by Charlie Lee.

Nick Fenton was the only player to be shown the yellow card after a foul on Scott Rendell.

Town tried to pull another goal back and Hegarty got a cross in and found Ryan Bennett but he shot wide of the goal before Hegarty had a shot blocked by Williams.

Martrin Butler then tried a shot but sent the ball over the bar before George Boyd had a shot for Peterborough and he put his attempt also over the bar.

Has the game went in to stoppage time, Town went looking to pull at least one goal back, Jarman sent a cross in but the ball went out for a goal kick before Hegarty sent a cross in but Charlie Lee cleared.

The final whistle came to bring an end to the game and now sees the Mariners go down to their seventh straight defeat in their last home game of the season and will now hopefully go and end the season with a win at Hereford.
