Mariners` manager Neil Woods has drawn up a short list of midfielders after being told funds are available to back him in his bid to lure a midfield boss to Blundell Park ahead of the transfer deadline in 6 days.

That is not to say a fee will necessarily be paid however the wages for the right man will doubtless be substantial. As ever the Codfather is keeping things close to his chest, although this is clearly further evidence of John Fenty and Mike Parker’s desire and commitment to back the Bounce back with their own hard earned cash.

Said Woods ‘The three midfielders we have – Mark (Hudson), Michael (Leary) and Micky (Cummins) – are energy, tacklers and terriers. We’d like at the moment someone who can put their foot on the ball and dictate and control the game?.. a player that’s creative, that’s strong because of this league, that’s mobile and that’s available to come and play in the Conference. When you put all that together it’s not as easy to find the right player as people assume it is.”

Unless of course you sell them the club, the desire, the passion and of course pay the price. We have done that with a dozen players so far this season, lets hope 13 is in fact lucky for some.
