Grimsby Town midfielder Michael Leary collapsed after training last thursday.

The incident occurred as Michael was being driven home from the club’s Cheapside training ground.

Grimsby’s joint manager, Rob Scott, explained the situation to the Evening Telegraph :

‘After training, Michael went home and passed out in the car, with his wife driving, so that was obviously a concern for her.

‘She took him straight to the hospital where he was assessed and they thought it could have possibly been something to do with his heart.

‘But they re-evaluated that and felt it might have been linked to a collision in training that he couldn’t really remember’.

Leary obviously missed last saturday’s match against Tamworth, and will not be considered for tomorrow night’s fixture with Darlington at Blundell Park.

Rob Scott added :

‘Until Michael sees a specialist we’re not really sure what the situation is.

‘Our concerns are with him and the fact that he’s not well. He’s got a young family and football isn’t always the main priority when something like this happens.

‘It could be something and it could be nothing, hopefully it’s nothing, but until we’ve had a specialist look at him then we’re not prepared to take a risk with him’.

Leary will be seen by a cardiologist during this week.

Vital Grimsby and it’s members wish Michael a speedy recovery.
