York City have made a surprising move for Tamworth’s Gary Mills to be their new Manager.

Mills was part of the Nottingham Forest European Cup winning team in 1979 and 1980 and was the youngest member of that squad at the time. He started his management career at Grantham Town before moving on to Kings Lynn. Later he entered the Football League with an ill-fated tenure at Notts County, before drifting back again into Non League, with two spells at Tamworth and a spell in charge of Alfreton.

Martin Foyle, who departed York City, is now the favourite to get the job at Hereford United.

Newly managerless Tamworth are the opponents of the Mariners in the FA Cup qualifying rounds.
