Nathan Jarman was sent off on his full debut has the Mariners went down 3-1 to Rochdale at Spotland today.

Grimsby started well and got a couple of shots in in the first 4 minutes. The first shot came when Nathan Jarman, who was making his full debut for the Mariners, tried a shot from around 25 yards but the ball was caught by Rochdale`s keeper Tommy Lee before Martin Butler shot wide.

A free kick was awarded to Rochdale after a foul by Tom Newey on Ben Muirhead. Adam Rundle took the kick and sent the ball into the area where Lee Thorpe got his head to the ball but headed it wide.

Rochdale won a corner on 8 minutes and it was taken by Rundle but Nick Fenton was first to the ball and cleared.

James Hunt was then shown the yellow card for a foul on Kallum Higginbotham after 15 minutes.

Rochdale then had another corner but this time Rundle`s kick was caught by Town`s keeper Phillip Barnes.

Rochdale`s Gary Jones tried a shot from 20 yards but the ball was cleared by Ryan Bennett

Rundle then got a shot in on 23 minutes but sent the ball wide of goal.

Town had a free kick on the left after a foul by Simon Ramsden on Nick Fenton. Clarke took the free kick and went to cross the ball into the area but it was blocked by Rochdale`s Jones.

Jarman then got a shot in after 27 minutes but sent the ball wide of the goal and the score remained goalless.

Rochdale then got a corner on 29 minutes and was taken by Muirhead but Barnes was again first to the ball and caught it.

Rochdale then made a change on 31 minutes when Lee Thorpe went off and was replaced by Rene Howe.

Nathan Jarman was then booked for a foul on Thomas Kennedy before David Perkins was shown the yellow card for a foul on Jarman 2 minutes later.

Nathan Jarman was then shown a second yellow and sent off for a foul David Perkins after 37 minutes.

Has the game entered the 2 minutes of stoppage time at the end of the first half Rochdale came close to scoring but Ramsden`s header went wide of the goal.


Alan Buckley made a change at half time for the Mariners when he brought Andy Taylor on for James Hunt.

Rochdale then scored on 47 minutes when a cross from Rundle was headed into the goal by Rene Howe. ROCHDALE 1 GRIMSBY 0.

Within 10 minutes Rochdale went two-nil up when Higginbotham found Rene Howe who put the ball in to the bottom left of the goal. ROCHDALE 2 GRIMSBY 0.

Town then won a corner on 55 minutes. Danny Boshell sent the ball to the far post but it was cleared by Perkins.

Nathan Stanton then tried a shot on 57 minutes but his effort was blocked by Boshell and went out for a corner.

Rochdale where having most of the possession and kept pushing the Town defence back and Perkins got shot in on 63 minutes but his shot was blocked by Ryan Bennett.

Rochdale then had a corner and it was taken by Rundle but was cleared Jamie Clarke and went out for another corner. Muirhead took the corner kick and this time was cleared by Bennett.

Rochdale then made their second substitution on 69 minutes when Ben Muirhead was replaced by Adam Le Fondre, who scored against Town earlier in the season.

Adam Le Fondre came close to giving Rochdale a third goal but instead of shooting either side of Barnes, he shot towards him and the ball was caught by Barnes.

Rochdale kept up the pressure and Simon Ramsden sent a shot over the bar after 75 minutes before Fondre had a shot blocked by Bennett a couple of minutes later.

Rochdale then made their final change on 83 minutes when David Perkins was replaced by Chris Basham.

The Mariners then pulled a goal back on 85 minutes when a cross from Martin Butler was headed into the back of the net by Andy Taylor. ROCHDALE 2 GRIMSBY1.

Alan Buckley then made his second change on 87 minutes when he brought Gary Jones on to replace Jamie Clarke has Town looked to try and rescue a point.

Ryan Bennett then got a shot in but the ball was blocked by Thomas Kennedy has the game approached stoppage time.

Town then had a free kick just outside their own area after Rene Howe was caught offside. Phillip Barnes then went up to Rochdale`s area and Tom Newey took the kick before Nick Fenton fired a shot over the bar.

The last piece of action came on the fourth minute of stoppage time when Higginbotham passed to Rene Howe and he shot low and into the goal. ROCHDALE 3 GRIMSBY 1.
