Swindon And Hereford Reports

Grimsby travelled to South in the hope that they could topple high flyers Swindon. But, yet again it didn`t happen for the Mariners and Graham Rodger; instead they went away with nothing. However the result wasn`t a fair reflection on a decent Town performance.

Swindon took the lead in the first half through young striker Michael Pook. Then, just before the half-time break, a fine Andy Monkhouse strike gave the home side a two-goal cushion.
In the second half, Town started to play. And after the injury to Swindon’s one and only goalkeeper, Peter Brezovan, It was thought Grimsby would get something out of the game. Though, despite a couple of tame efforts on goal, the Mariners didn`t make their advantage count. To make matters worse for Town, in the last few minutes Lee Peacock lobbed Phil Barnes and celebrated with a nifty little break Dance. A 3-0 result was harsh on Town but Swindon wont be complaining.

Next up was Hereford at Blundell Park, and with the television cameras in Town, Graham Rodger and his men deseparately wanted a win. The game brought a debut for on loan Scunthorpe defender Andy Butler and his job was to sort out the shambles which was happening at the back.
Rodgers men got off to a good start with much criticised striker Gary Jones latched onto a Tony Thorpe header and finished with a neat hooked volley. Hereford equalised late in the first half after a clumsy Butler tackle gifted the Bulls a penalty, which was neatly dispatched.
It was a scrappy second half which neither team dominated but Town got the break through. Tony Thorpe again slipped in Jones for the big frontman’s second of the game.

seems like you have started to get your act together a bit more over these last two games…even though you lost to sindon it does not sound like too bad a performance……
