After a goal shy night against York on Tuesday, Neil Woods has two more midfielders in contention for four or perhaps even three positions. The headlines have been about the return of right winger Lewis Gobern as well as forward Charlie Ademeno; yet Micky Cummins creative performance and thirty five yard effort against Hull seems to have slipped under the radar.

Woods is spoilt for choice with dare I say it an embarrassment of riches for the midfield quartet or perhaps even a bold trio.

4 Hudson 7 Gobern 8 Cummins 11 Coulson 14 Leary 29 Eagle 15 Samuels 19 Bradley Wood.

Whilst Gobern, Rob Eagle and Michael Coulson vie for the wide positions, with Peter Bore likely to start at right back; Samuels and Wood are also willing and able. Then we get to the heart of the matter with central creativity being questioned when we have Cummins, Hudson, Eagle, Leary and Samuels who have all played in that position for the Mariners and in some cases their previous clubs.

Micky Cummins has been brought in as a midfield playmaker, perhaps with games like today in mind. He Hudson and Leary would make a thrilling threesome in the middle pulling the strings behind three forwards; perm three from Lee Peacock, Charlie Ademeno, Alan Connell or Michael Coulson.

Mix that and some flowing fisheries football and you have harnessed the power of Neptune`s trident. But goals are as much the life blood as fish produce in our Town and they along with style and a smile will keep the crowds and ‘Blundell a bubblin`, just as much as the victories A forgiving bunch we may be but we know our fish and we know our football up here. With that sort of premium produce served up on the Grimsby pontoon, there will be no shortage of punters.

Though we may only sing of fishing up here nowadays, attacking football will always ensure we are loud and proud.
