The first Saturday of the season saw ten wins, with pride of Lincolnshire Grimsby, Darlington, Hayes & Yeading, Histon, Luton, Mansfield, Wimbledon, Tamworth, Wrexham and Kidderminster getting the all important three points. Also there were a lot of last minute or thereabouts goals in a goalscoring day in the Blue Square Premier.

Last seasons Play Off Finalists York City went behind against Kidderminster to a Gittings 10th minute goal. Rankine scored an equaliser with a penalty in the 86th, before another penalty award in the 89th saw a goal from Shaw and Kidderminster going back to the Midlands with a surprising win.

Grimsby’s relegation companion Darlington beat Blue Square South Championes Newport County 1-0 win a 4th minute goal from Liam Hatch.

Of the big boys in the League, Luton Town took on the Houdini team of the League Altrincham and beat them 2-1. Kroca taking them infront in the 22nd before Reeves equalised for the Alti’s in the 70th minute. The immaculately named Barnes-Homer finally struck the winner on the 88th for the Hatters.

At Field Mill, Lincoln’s virgin striker from last year Paul Connor scored twice for the Stags on his debut as they beat Forest Green 3-1. All the goals were in the second half, with Connor’s 47th minute effort cancelled out by Caines on 52, with Mills and Connor’s second coming on the 57th and 72nd.

John Beck’s return to management saw an entertaining game at village team Histon. Barrow took the lead on 12 with an og from Clerima, with 3 goals coming from McCrae on 29 and two from Attwood on 45 and 70.

AFC Wimbledon beat Southport 1-0 with a goal from Jolley on 72.

Tamworth took on Eastbourne Borough in a packed 6 goal thriller. Tamworth took a 3-0 lead on the Borough with goals from Perry 11, Marshall 19 and Thomas 30. Pacquette got one back for Eastbourne on 49th, Rodman put the Lambs back to a 3 goal cushion before an 83rd minute goal from Elphick saw the game finish 4-2.

Hayes and Yeading saw a decent 2-1 win against Bath City with two goals from debutant loanee striker Ben Wright from Peterborough on the 47th and 83rd minutes. Jones saw a consolation effort in injury time bring them some comfort.

Wrexham also saw three points with a 25th minute goal from Morrell beating Cambridge at the Racecourse Ground.

Elsewhere draws for Gateshead v Kettering and Rushden v Fleetwood.

And finally kudos to the 758 Mariners who travelled down to Crawley to see Peacock prance and strut his stuff with a free kick outside the box. Just another 45 1-0s and will see the Mariners return to the promised land.
