With their existing contracts due to expire at the end of this season, Grimsby Town’s Peter Bore and the captain, Rob Atkinson, have both turned down new contracts which have been offered to them by the club.

Regarding the contracts situation, manager Neil Woods said ‘At this moment in time, they’ve turned them down, which is their perogative.’

Centre half Atkinson confirmed that he has received two new deals, and added ‘They’ve offered me a couple of contracts but we couldn’t come to an agreement. The ball’s in Grimsby’s court now, so it’s up to them.’

This comes on top of much speculation that the player who was expected to sign for the Mariners on New Years day was Liam Hatch of Peterborough. He had reportedly agreed terms with the club before changing his mind and signing a deal with Darlington instead.

Woods, not wishing to disclose the name of the player concerned, added ‘We had hoped to get somebody in and we thought we’d concluded a deal but that’s fallen through.’
