Rochdale appears to be willing to allow their no nonsense ex Scunthorpe defensive stalwart Nathan Stanton to move on without a fee. This has prompted a tug of war between the Mariners and Burton Albion who are also on the verge of doing a deal with Norwich hero John Deehan. Could the Mariners be on the verge of pipping them twice?

The 29 year old was instrumental in last season`s promotion however he is not deemed up to League 1 according to a Northwest source. Strange really given only a serious knee injury earlier in his career at Scunthorpe robbed him of playing at the very top.

Nathan is not the tallest at 5` 11″ but he is more than useful in the air not to mention lightening fast as a sweeper. If Woods can complete the deal don`t just look at this as a Linwood replacement. He could well be the man to martial a central three at the back if we decide to go that way or cover at right back if Stockdale cops it during the season.
