Connell provided the consolation again for the Mariners, who went down to a 25th minute Liam Blakeman goal, a stunning 30 yard free kick. Blakeman himself could have got a hatrick if he hadn’t been so wasteful during the game. The Mariners did have chances, Peter Bore with an early effort which hit the bar.

Lee Peacock was the man who provided Connell with his equaliser on 73, with a cheeky assist and our lad Alan struck home from 18 yards. Peacock himself could have added a winner later on, but it wasn’t Grimsby’s day and with the amount of chances both teams had, a draw was perhaps the fair result.
