Firstly Town faced Hartlepool and it started well. despite Hartlepool piling on the pressure, a Grimsby corner from the right resulted in Nick Fenton rising highest and nodding home to give Town the lead. However, just before HT Peter Beagrie’s showboating in front of his own goal went one step too far with the former Scunthorpe man losing the ball and conceding a penalty which Ex-mariner Jon Daly happily tucked home in first half stoppage time.
This gave the visitors confidence and they soon made it 2 after the break. Gary Croft played a ball too short back to keeper Phil Barnes and Daly couldn`t believe his luck, rounding the keeper and slotting home.

Yet another defensive mistake gave Joel Porter acres of space to fire home from 20 yards in the 3rd minute of extra time. The fans now wanted Rodgers head.

Town then travelled to Darlington hoping to salvage something after a woeful Tuesday night display. It didn`t start well for Rodgers men who went 2-0 down in 20 minutes and looked to be travelling home with nothing. On 66 minutes though Town had a chance. Loan signing Tony Thorpe was brought down in the area, allowing Ciaran Toner to convert the spot kick.
Continued presured resulted in a Grimsby equaliser, Ricky Ravenhill blasting home from 12 yards.
Town did well to get anything from the game and headed home the happier side. The result led to Hodgson’s sacking.
