Paterson has yet to sign a new contract with Stoke, with speculation and hope linking him to Town every day.

The 20-year-old is high on Alan Buckley’s wanted list yet the Stoke local is still wanted at Stoke, the question for Paterson is where his career will flourish best at.

Despite no further contract from Stoke over his contract, Paterson isn’t worried as he accepts that the clubs senior players are taking the attention of the mangement team at the minute.

‘I’ve had no more contact with Stoke about my contract or any offer from Grimsby,’ he told the Stoke Sentinel.

‘The new season is still a way off and I certainly haven’t ruled out playing a part at Stoke, so I haven’t been talking to any clubs about moving.

‘I don’t think I’m one of the most important players for Stoke to get wrapped up in at the moment.

‘The club has its priorities and I’m not in a rush, but I’m hoping to get it sorted out soon’.

As a Stoke fan, Paterson admitted he would ideally like to stay with the Potters but wouldn’t rule out a move to any club.

‘I’m from the area and it has been my club for the past 10 years, so the ideal scenario would be for me to sign for Stoke,’ he added.

‘I’m still at the club and at the moment I have no other thoughts about where I’m going to be next season. I’m just focused on keeping myself fit so I’m ready for pre-season.

‘But anything can happen in football and I don’t think anything is out of the question.’
