With News that a referee from Chester was to offiate the huge game between Grimsby and Bournemouth, some fans were unhappy to say the least, but we can confirm that a new ref has been installed for this huge game.

MR Steve Tanner from Avon is a late replacement for referee M Jones at Bournemouth on Saturday.

This comes on the back of the Football league defending their decision for Mr Jones to officiate the match the Fl said ‘Mr Jones, a Select Group official appointed to the game by PGMO, hails from Ellesmere Port. The fact that he is Cheshire-based has no bearing on a fixture to be contested by teams from Dorset and Lincolnshire. In hypothetical terms, referees are as susceptible to making mistakes as all other participants in the game, but the magnitude of this particular match necessitates the appointment of an experienced and senior official and Mr Jones certainly has those credentials having been a National List referee for thirteen seasons.’

Either way fans are happy, so let the game begin, oh its only Thursday….Excitment getting the better of us here at Vital Grimsby.
