Doncaster Rovers’ transfer-listed midfielder Ricky Ravenhill could become Graham Rodger’s first signing if reports are correct.

The Grimsby Telegraph today reports that the 25-year-old former Barnsley midfielder is looking to leave the club and the Mariners could be tempted to make a bid.

With Rob Jones rumoured to be leaving for Hibernian soon the six-figure sum the club would command could be used to sign up the Doncaster-born Ravenhill who played in 35 games for his hometown club last season scoring 3 goals. In total for Doncaster he’s scored 10 goals in 159 appearances. His last goal came on 1st October 2005 against Bradford City. He was also sent off in that game for being threatening towards Dean Windass after he brought the Bantams striker down.

A handful of other clubs are also believed to be interested in him.

Meanwhile former Mariners badboy Ashley Sestanovich has departed his team today. Following discussions with the board and the manager, Sestanovich has left Farnborough Town by mutual consent. Stating personal reasons Sestanovich successfully negotiated a price to buy himself out of his contract.

Ravenhill is a good player, I saw him last season and I think he’d be a good asset to the club. My only worry though would be the increasing number of midfielders we have at the club. We could do with a couple of defenders and at least one new striker (preferably two if Reddy goes).
